Their lives just moved on I guess? Or they got banned. I sometimes wonder what happened to them. I am glad we don’t have “power” contributors on BGG. They seem to be all over the forums and then they disappear. It’s interesting how certain contributors come to the fore on BGG. I am not sure there’s any merit banging on about the same things over and over. I demonstrated how much fun it is to upgrade games. I’ve shown all the great games there are that have less traditional themes. I’ve rallied against interaction for the sake of it. I’ve trumpeted multi player solitaire and the cult of new. I do feel I’ve said what I’ve wanted to say. There’s a huge temptation to go “you know, that’s enough”. So the next milestone is one thousand blog posts. But they all represent opportunities to play. I guess you speak to staff on the stands? Demo games? Buy lots of games? But what do you do all day? There no open gaming. Also there lots of new games that would be released. Also if I am honest I don’t really “get” Essen. I would like to go to Essen but it’s just a confidence thing. It’s great getting an insight into how games are designed. I read Jamey Stegmaier’s blog and Morten Monrad Pedersen’s blog. I must admit I would like more blogs by designers. It’s such a big advantage if you are Board Game Geek News or a famous designer. Who cares how many games I’ve played or whether my Kickstarter’s turned up? I really like my designer questions but unfortunately a lot of designers and artists don’t respond. My blog’s changed over the years becoming more image heavy and the posts have got longer. The writing bit is easy as long as I have a good idea. The hardest bit is being creative and getting inspiration. I like the freedom to write a blog post when I feel like it. Tony Boydell’s blog “Everyman needs a shed” has got over four thousand and John Shepherd’s blog “The tyranny of small decisions” has over 1400. 800 seems quite a lot although there are plenty of blogs with more. In fact I’ve done 813 as I forgot about this milestone. ![]()
